Discover the main highlight of one of the World’s smallest capital, Victoria! (Visit the State House Office of the President) which is synonymous with the history of Victoria and Seychelles as a whole. It is a monument which is a symbol of the evolution of the Seychellois people and of the forging of their national identity from colonial and immigrant roots. This sublime and majestic building which is a National Monument was called 'Government House’ during the years when Seychelles was a British colony and was under the authority of a Governor and his Legislative Council. State House was also the residential home of the governor. In all, sixteen governors and one President have lived there. In 1977, the building ceased to be the home of the chief executive. It became the offices of the Head of State and housed some of the departments and agencies affiliated with the functions of the President. Tour the State House grounds with its wide and open extent of sloping lawns where flowering shrubs create an amazing contrast with the verdant grass. The longstanding attractions of the garden would be the coco-de-mer palms and the tortoise pen and not forgetting the cemetery with tombs and graves of some notable historical figures. Continue your tour within the centre of Victoria and the market. You will have an opportunity to see the clock tower, the court house, shop for souvenirs at the curio stalls or explore the colourful market of fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and spices. The tour will also take you to the Botanical Gardens one of Seychelles’ Oldest National Monuments, dating back more than a century.
